Max Goodchild

Sugarhouse Work/Live Residency Programme

Max Goodchild’s practice explores the possibilities of the tradition of painting, through the language of abstraction. His paintings draw from everyday experiences, as well as responding to the material qualities and process of painting.

Max studied Fine Art in Liverpool and Bristol, graduating in 1981. He has exhibited widely in galleries around the UK and is a visiting lecturer in Art History at the University of East London. He grew up on the coast of Dorset, and now lives and works in East London.

Sugarhouse Work/Live Residency Programme
Based on the model of the Fire Station programme, the Sugarhouse Work/Live Residency Programme was designed in response to the lack of affordable space in London for artists to work and live in. The project was developed in partnership with Solon Co-operative Housing Services and the Boss Group and received funding from the Housing Corporation and Stratford Development Partnership.
