Brigid McLeer

Sugarhouse Work/Live Residency Programme

Brigid McLeer is an Irish artist based in London. Brigid is interested in contingent subjectivity and the capacity of images to 'act' in the context of politicised art practices. She works in various media/modes including video, durational performance, photography, drawing and writing. Recently Brigid has also begun to produce more collective and participatory performance events and projects, sometimes underpinned by a written script. She also produces and publishes critical and art writing.

Brigid has had recent solo exhibitions at Highlans Gallery, Drogheda (2012); Wexford Arts Centre (2012); Art Currents Institute Gallery, New York (2012); Site Gallery, Sheffield (2007/8); and Standpoint Gallery, London (2007/8). In 2010 Brigid was the recipient of the Rea Garden Residency in Birmingham. In 2006-7, she also spent time in Italy on the San Servolo Island residency, and as a resident at the British School at Rome.

Sugarhouse Work/Live Residency Programme
Based on the model of the Fire Station programme, the Sugarhouse Work/Live Residency Programme was designed in response to the lack of affordable space in London for artists to work and live in. The project was developed in partnership with Solon Co-operative Housing Services and the Boss Group and received funding from the Housing Corporation and Stratford Development Partnership.
