#30 Sunil Mann, Aargauer Kuratorium Residency 2023

50 opportunities for 50 years

“It is a great opportunity. Especially at this stage and at this age. I’m not sure how serious I would have taken a stay like this at 25. I probably would have gone out every night.”

Sunil Mann is a writer of crime novels, children's books, novels for young adults, columns and radio plays. Sunil was born in the Bernese Oberland (Switzerland) to Indian parents and now lives in Zurich. He is the recipient of numerous awards.

Sunil was selected by Aargauer Kuratorium for a six-month residency with Acme in London. The residency enables a wide spectrum of practitioners connected with the Canton of Aargau, Switzerland, to undertake one of two six-month work/live residencies per year at an Acme building.

Acme has worked in partnership with Aargauer Kuratorium to develop and provide a London-based artists' residency since 1999. The residency includes a bursary, and work/live studio space, as well as a programme of social events, critical discussions, and gallery tours.

"It’s a perfect chance to work on things in a different environment, get new ideas and lots of inspiration."

Sunil Mann

Sunil’s first impressions of the studio were the spaciousness and the light. He is looking forward to the opportunity to work without interruptions.

“I’m working on a collection of stories which I wanted to do for a long time. Now is the right time and it fits perfectly with my stay in London because after every story you’ve finished your head is free again. With a novel you’re mentally stuck. Like that I can allow myself to take a day or two off per week and do something completely else.”
